Troubleshooting ======================================================================= Problem: After installing this driver, the Control panel applet I had for a Voodoo Graphics card is gone. Resolution: Voodoo2 will uninstall *ANY* Voodoo Graphics drivers. This is to ensure only Voodoo2 drivers are on the system. Problem: After installing Voodoo2 drivers, old DOS Glide games do not work or stop working correctly. Resolution: Find the file V2-Auto.inf located with the Voodoo2 installation file using Explorer and right-click. On the pop-down menu, select Install. Reboot the computer for changes to take effect. This will update the Autoexec.bat with environment variables use for compatibility with old games. Problem: When running certain Direct 3D games, may see visual anomalies as a result of Anti-Aliasing. Resolution: Bring up the Display Control Panel, click on Voodoo2 tab, click on Advanced button, and deselect Anti-Aliasing for Direct 3D. ======================================================================= 4. Known Problems with Windows DX6 ======================================================================= Problem: The runtime function ValidateTextureStageState is not flushing texture handles to the driver, prior to calling the validate function. This is causing the driver to pass all multi-texture configurations. This problem is only going to affect DX6 specific apps that are making use of the multi-texturing. Problem: We have a discovered a problem with enabling and disabling specular during rendering of multi-primitives that also have fog enabled. Basically the driver is being sent a flexible vertex format that doesn't contain any fog information and so the primitives are being renderered incorrectly. Problem: Some games are exhibiting flashing primitives during rendering of frames. This shows up most noticeably on 'Take No Prisoners' as well as 'Armour Command'. The problem is fundamental to the rendering functions it could possibly affect a lot more games. The same problems are appearing on the other manufacturer cards as well. In General: Microsoft is aware of issues with the current version of DX6. Until Microsoft releases a stabilized version of the DX6 driver all graphics cards will exhibit these problems to certain degrees. ======================================================================== 5. Direct3D Applications ======================================================================== Using Registry Editor, edit: HKLM\SOFTWARE\3Dfx Interactive\Voodoo2\D3D WARNING: Using Registry editor incorrectly can cause unexpected results. Only those familiar with Windows 95/98 and the System Registry should attempt to make any changes. Be sure to make a backup copy of your system registry before proceeding! Alternatively, use the Voodoo2 Control panel in the Display Properties to easily make the same changes as shown here. 5.1 Changing Refresh Rate Registry Settings ------------------------------------------- Add the following entries as REG_SZ Value types: Value Name Value Description ------------------------------------------------------- SSTV2_REFRESH_512x384 Refresh Rate for 512x384* SSTV2_REFRESH_640x400 Refresh Rate for 640x400** SSTV2_REFRESH_640x480 Refresh Rate for 640x480* SSTV2_REFRESH_800x600 Refresh Rate for 800x600* SSTV2_REFRESH_1024x768 Refresh Rate for 1024x768* * Acceptable REG_SZ values are "60", "75", "85", and "120" ** Acceptable REG_SZ values are "70", "75", "85", and "120" 5.2 Gamma Settings ------------------ Add the following entries as REG_SZ Value types: Value Name Value Description ------------------------------------------------------- SSTV2_BGAMMA Blue Gamma Setting SSTV2_GGAMMA Green Gamma Setting SSTV2_RGAMMA Red Gamma Setting The driver automatically defaults to a REG_SZ value of "1.30" for each gamma setting. 5.3 Advanced Settings -------------------- The following entries can be used as REG_DWORD Value types: Value Name Value Description --------------------------------------------------------------- SSTV2_SWAPINTERVAL VSync OFF if set to 0x00 SSTV2_FORCE_TRILINEAR Trilinear filtering ON if set to 0x01 SSTV2_ANTIALIAS Anti-Aliasing ON if set to 0x01 SSTV2_AUTOMIPMAP Automatic Mipmapping ON if set to 0x01 SSTV2_SLIDETECT SLI detection OFF if set to 0x00 SSTV2_GRXCLK Clock Rate of 3D Blaster Voodoo2 *** *** IMPORTANT: Use the Clock Rate slider bar on the Voodoo2 Control Panel page to determine the clock rate range allowed.
