The DirectDraw portion of the drivers supports Direct3D when using DirectX 8.0 ======================================================================= Installation ======================================================================= Requirements ------------ - Windows 9x/ME - PC with a Pentium, Pentium II, or Pentium Pro Processor and a free AGP or PCI slot - 16MB of RAM Un-Installation (for clean install later): ------------------------------------------ NOTE: Move to 'Fresh Installation' section below if you just bought your Voodoo4/5, and are doing this installation for the first time. 1) Right click on Desktop and go to Properties. 2) Go to Settings, then Advanced, then Adapter and hit Change. DETAIL (for Win98): Settings > Avanced > Adapter > Change > Next > select 'Display a list of all drivers in a specific location...' > Next > select 'Show all hardware' 3) Select Standard Display Types and then select Standard Display Adapter (VGA). 4) Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and remove 3dfx Tools. 5) Reboot as requested. 6) It's best at this point to search the Hard Drive for Voodoo*.*, Glide*.* and 3dfx*.* and delete any of these files found. WARNING: The following 2 steps require Registry Editing using Regedit.exe. Don't do this if you're not versed in registry management, you can cause the computer not to boot if you're not familiar with Regedit! If that is the case, please move on to Step 7 in the next 'Fresh Installation' section below). 7) Go to the following registry path using Regedit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Display\000*\ Delete the following Keys: D3D, Glide, FEATURES, and TIMINGS. 8) Run Regedit and search for any additional Voodoo and 3dfx terms there and remove these registry entries. Select 'Look at' 'Keys' only! 9) Move to Step 7 below. Fresh Installation ------------------ NOTE: Complete Steps 1 and 2 before removing your existing 2D card. 1) Extract the files for the Voodoo4/5 driver to a directory. 2) Before removing your existing 2D card switch the video driver to Standard VGA. Click Start, Control Panel. Double-click on Display. Select 640X480 and 16 colors. Accept the changes. 3) Power off the system and remove your existing 2D card. 4) Install the Voodoo Card in a free AGP or PCI Slot 5) Power on the system and verify that video appears during post. 6) Start Windows in Normal mode (Once Windows starts you may be notified that no video device exists, click Cancel if this message appears) 7) Go to the directory where you put the Voodoo driver, run the the executable file. Click SETUP. At the welcome screen of 3dfx Tools, select NEXT. Click on YES when prompt to install Voodoo Driver. 8) Follow instruction on the screen to install Voodoo Driver and 3dfx Tools Control Panel. 9) Select 'Yes, I want to restart my computer now' when prompted. 10) Install DirectX 8.0 or later. Get it from: http://www.microsoft.com/directx/ 11) Use overclock.exe if you wish to overclock your card, though it is NOT recommended and can permanently damage your card! 12) Run Hztool.exe in HzTool folder to set up your correct monitor refresh rates. ======================================================================= Questions & Answers ======================================================================= Q: I can only access a resolution of 640x480 although any colour depth is available. What can I do to fix this? A: This happens when the monitor is set to unknown or default. Change monitor selection on display properties page by following the following instructions: * Right click on desktop and select properties from the drop down menu. * Click on the settings tab and select advanced. * Choose monitor tab. * Select change. * Follow the instructions and change to either PnP (Plug and Play) or the exact model of the monitor. Q: I can't execute Setup.exe without getting an installer error message. What's wrong? A: This happens when your Windows Installer is out of date. Execute and install instmsia.exe file from the main directory where you extracted the driver kit files. Q: Where can I find more info about Hidden Surface Removal? Does it actually work?
